Located within one block of the A-loft Hotel, iPic movie theater and the SofA District and just a two-block stroll to Atlantic Avenue, The OSC is quickly becoming a new hot spot for home buyers.
“It’s the closest residential neighborhood to the Atlantic Avenue core,” architect Richard Jones said. “It’s going through a revival and we call it, The OSC.”
The neighborhood, also known as Osceola Park, has alleys, artwork, a park and commercial components.
Osceola Park has seen some blight, Jones said. But with the success of the adjacent SofA district, which Jones helped coin as the name of the area located south of Atlantic Avenue in 2014, the momentum for Osceola Park is shining.
“There is such great character and diversity in the neighborhood, and we are seeing a demand for projects of a reduced density, scale, and price which is great,” Jones said from his downtown studio where some new designs for the area were revealed. “It’s walkable, offers access to world class entertainment and restaurants and it has such a cool hip vibe.”
Jones also credits the residents as a driving force for a better and safer place to live.
“Lisa and James Quillian, Gail-Lee McDermott and Kevin Homer have done such fabulous things with the community and these new projects will enhance their fine efforts,” he said of neighborhood residents.
Land prices in the area have doubled in the last 12 months and there is construction activity along with signs for pending projects on adjacent lots.
On the way to the area is a 3-unit townhome project. Each unit will have a private pool and courtyard, 2 car garage, elevator and roof terrace. It will face the Sofa Delray Apartments. Currently, the project is going through the city’s site plan approval process.
Other projects in the works are two single family homes, which are going through permit drawings. The homes will total 3,000-square-feet each and feature a pool courtyard, detached guest cottage and a garage. They will be located across from the new A-loft Hotel.
Construction is scheduled to begin early 2020.
