51st Delray Affair Kicks Off April 5-7

The Annual Delray Affair celebrates its 51st anniversary beginning Friday, April 5th through Sunday, April 7th, 2013. The largest art & craft festival in the Southeastern United States attracts over 300,000 visitors to stroll along the streets of the beautiful “Most Fun Small Town in the USA”, Delray Beach. The Delray Affair features over 700 exhibits by artists and crafters from South Florida, thirty-eight states, in addition to food vendors, and live entertainment in our two covered beer gardens! Beginning at noon on Friday and continuing all weekend long at the main stage pavilion at Delray Beach Center for the Arts and on 3rd Avenue and Atlantic! THE BIG EASEL! Art collectors & art lovers; catch a rare glimpse into the artist’s studio. The Big Easel recreates the artist’s workroom in an open air setting; granting visitors a three day pass into the sacred space of the artist’s studio. Featuring works currently on their studio easels & in progress. Four award winning, local & internationally renowned fine artist’s paint large & live; a showcase of artful expression, artifice & exhibitionism. Shade and seating provided for art lovers & the art curious. Artwork available for purchase. Meet award winning William DeBilzan, Dana Donaty, Kim Fay and Cecilia Lueza; local and internationally renowned fine artists. Each artist in uniquely individual & masterful in their respective disciplines. Delray Beach Center for the Arts will also host LIVE ART in front of the Cornell Museum with the Plein Air Painters of Delray. Artist/Instructor, Ralph Papa will lead the group, which includes some of Palm Beach County’s finest Plein Air artists, who will paint each day beginning at 11 am. Confirmed artists, to date, include such local celebrities as Brennan King and Vincent Cacace as well as Pati Maguire, Stan Dornfest, Lorrie Turner, Frances Lynn, Yossi Daboosh and Ted Matz. The paintings will be sold through a silent auction at 4:30 pmeach day. Proceeds will benefit the School of Creative Arts Student Scholarship Fund. En Plein Air is a French expression, which means “in the open air”, and is used to describe the act of painting outdoors. The Plein Air Painters of Delray meet regularly to paint at locations throughout South Florida and are organized through Meetup.com/Plein- Air-Painters-At-Delray, sponsored by Delray Beach Center for the Arts. Delray Beach Center for the Arts at Old School Square offers world-class events, theater, exhibits and learning opportunities. Restored early 20th century school buildings (listed on the National Register of Historic Places) house the charming Cornell Museum of Art & American Culture (c. 1913), the intimate Crest Theatre (c. 1925) and the Vintage Gymnasium. The Pavilion (est. 2002) hosts outdoor concerts and festivals. The School of Creative Arts offers beginner through master level classes and workshops in art, photography and writing. A new culinary program is scheduled to open later this year. JADOT WINE TASTING BOOTH Come try a free sample of ripe, juicy Beaujolais Villages or refreshing Macon Villages (an unoaked Chardonnay), at the Jadot booth near the main stage. Fruit for Jadot’s famous Beaujolais-Villages red wine is grown in the finest vineyards in southern Beaujolais, in the Burgundy region. Here, time-honored tradition marries with modern, state of the art winemaking. Admission to the Delray Affair is FREE. A $5 fee for public parking and handicap parking is available at the Delray Beach City Hall parking lot located on NW 1st Ave. and at both City parking garages for a $5 fee.
