Fundraising Event by Local High School Student Spencer Features Grammy Award Winning Judges
Rockin’ Music for a Rockin’ Cause – that is the goal of Spencer Silver, a 17-yearold student at Rosenblatt High School at Donna Klein Jewish Academy, and the son of Boca-based cabaret sensation Deborah Silver and her husband Larry D. Silver. That is why he is producing JAM FOR THE CURE: Battle of the Bands to Battle ALS that will be held on Sunday, January 25, at Jazziz, the hothot- hot nightspot in Mizner Park. “We will have all types of bands,” says Silver, an avid guitarist whose beloved aunt Marjie is stricken with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. “Not only is this for a great cause, but each participating band will receive a professional audio and video recording of their performance, courtesy of Jazziz, which is the Major Sponsor for the event,” adds Silver. “In addition, they will have the opportunity to play in front of and have their performance evaluated by several celebrity judges, including two musical legends.” The JAM FOR THE CURE judges include: • Paul Hoyle, a music producer, composer and vocalist who won a Latin Grammy in 2004 and was nominated again in 2008. Among the artists with whom he has worked are Shakira, Julio Iglesias and Jon Secada, and he won the 2014 Best Music Producer of South Florida Award by the Film, Recording & Entertainment Council. • Dennis Lambert, the successful songwriter who has received 12 Grammy nominations and whose work has been recorded by such diverse artists as The Four Tops, Glen Campbell, Starship, Freddie & the Dreamers, Natalie Cole, Ziggy Marley, The Oak Ridge Boys and more. He also is a two-time nominee to the Songwriters Hall of Fame, 2011 and 2013. Dale McLean, the arena host for Miami Heat, will emcee JAM FOR THE CURE: Battle of the Bands to Battle ALS. Tickets for JAM FOR THE CURE 2015 are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, and include heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Tickets can be purchased at Jazziz, which is located at 201 Plaza Real in Mizner Park; by calling 561-300-0730; or online at www.jazziz.com (just click on Nightlife). For his Bar Mitzvah project, he successfully organized an “Estate Sale for a Cure,” a community event that raised approximately $23,000 for the ALS Foundation through donations and sales. “With the Battle of the Bands to Battle ALS, I hope to beat that previous amount and raise as much money as possible to help find a cure,” he adds. Profit from JAM FOR THE CURE will be donated to The ALS Association.
