The Delray Beach Public Library recently received a beautiful Centennial Quilt that was designed and created by the Library’s Quilting Bee group that meets twice monthly in the Library from Mondays, from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon. When the members of the Quilting Bee heard that the Library would be celebrating its’ 100th birthday on Thursday, April 11, 2013 they decided to create a quilt to be donated to the Library to commemorate this milestone. They obtained old photos of the original 40 Woman’s Club members who began the Library in 1913, gathered photos of the various Library locations and more relating to the Library’s rich history and put it all in the quilt. When they were finished they had created a beautiful piece of art to be hung in the Library for all to see at the Centennial Birthday Bash on Thursday, April 11th and at the Library’s Centennial Community Day Celebration on Saturday, April 13th and thereafter. The quilt will be permanently on display in the 2nd floor Gallery for all Library patrons to enjoy. “The Delray Beach Public Library is grateful to the quilters of the Quilting Bee for this priceless donation and will display it proudly,” said Alan Kornblau, Library Director.
