The City of Delray Beach has proclaimed May 18th as National Kids to Parks Day in Delray Beach and encourages local residents to participate by exploring all of the City’s parks. To celebrate, the City of Delray Beach will host a special commemorative National Kids to Parks Day on Saturday, May 18th, from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at Pompey Park, 1101 NW 2nd Street. This event is part of a grassroots movement where hundreds of thousands of children nationwide are encouraged to discover America’s parks through play to commemorate National Park Trust’s (NPT) third annual National Kids to Parks Day. All Delray Beach children and families are invited to attend this free event that will include a variety of recreational games including a sack race, basketball contests, soccer, tennis and more! Snacks and arts and crafts will also be available along with free admission to the pool where the entire family can enjoy water games and activities. Following the event, the community is invited to visit the City’s numerous parks and facilities throughout the day. Delray Beach has over 30 parks and recreation areas including a splash park, a variety of athletic fields, playgrounds, walking and fitness trails, picnic pavilions and mile-and-a-half of pristine beach which is guarded 365 days a year. The City’s Parks and Recreation Department also offers a variety of classes, programs and special events to fit anyone’s lifestyle. Residents are encouraged to visit the City’s website – www.mydelraybeach.com – or www.kidstoparks.org and sign up so that local families can be counted in the national tally. Then, on May 18, 2013, families are encouraged to visit a park or recreation area and submit photos of their adventures to Buddy@BuddyBison.org for possible inclusion in NPT’s national map commemorating the day. About National Park Trust National Park Trust is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving parks today and creating park stewards for tomorrow. As people spend more time indoors and as successive generations grow up with less of a connection to nature, NPT wants to build a greater awareness and appreciation for the importance of our country’s public lands and parks.
