The City of Delray Beach Parks and Recreation Department announced that it will offer children, ages three to five, a special opportunity to develop their gross motor skills for sports through the Start Smart program. This unique learning program will begin with Soccer on Saturdays, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am, at Catherine Strong Park, located at 1500 SW 6th Street. This four (4) week program, which will be held April 21st thru May 12th, teaches children the basic skills necessary to play organized soccer, including kicking, dribbling, passing, soccer rules and conditioning without the threat of competition and/or getting hurt. Participants will work one-on-one as well as spending quality time with their parents and/or guardians learning the sport of soccer. The cost to participate in the upcoming Start Smart Soccer program is $20.00 for residents and $30 for non-residents. This cost includes all the supplies and equipment needed. Registration will be held at Catherine Strong Park, during regular operational hours Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 am until 6:30 pm and on Sundays from 10 am to 7 pm. Payments may be made with cash, check or credit card (Visa or MasterCard). The Start Smart program is administered by the Youth Development Arm of the non-profit National Alliance for Youth Sports.
