Staff report

The Delray Beach Chorale hopes to spread a little holiday cheer with their concert, Jubilate!, this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Roberts Theater at Saint Andrew’s School in Boca Raton.

With the mission to cultivate the appreciation of choral music through inspiring masterworks, the Delray Beach Chorale hopes to break through traditional “choir” stereotypes and present a repertoire to the community that will both elevate and educate. Their upcoming concert Jubilate! will combine holiday cheer with some treasures from music’s baroque period by Antonio Vivaldi, Henry Purcell, and George Frederic Handel.

The DBC Director, Dr. Patricia P. Fleitas, brings over 30 years of experience as a choral conductor and educator at the university level. She is currently professor of music and director of choral and vocal studies at Florida Atlantic University where she conducts the University Chamber Singers and the University Latin American choral ensemble, Cantemos! Dr. Fleitas took on the Chorale as an effort to further entice the Delray Beach and Boca Raton communities to enjoy the beauty of live choral concerts featuring the masterworks that the average church choir or community group would not have the capacity to present.

The Delray Beach Chorale is made up of professional, non-professional and student musicians who share a mutual joy of singing. Their concerts are always accompanied by the best local, professional musicians who also play with the Palm Beach Symphony, the Palm Beach Opera, Miami City Ballet and others.

Through Jubilate! Dr. Fleitas hopes to present a classic holiday program carefully designed to inspire and excite the Boca Raton audience and broaden their appreciation of choral music while inviting them to join in the song.
