Delray Beach Proclaims July 2013 as Parks and Recreation Month

The City of Delray Beach is proud to proclaim July 2013 as “Parks and Recreation Month” and the public is invited to join the celebration by visiting the numerous parks and recreational facilities that are provided by the City. The theme of this year’s Parks and Recreation Month is “I love my Park and Recreation” and encourages individuals, families, friends and park-lovers thoughout the City to venture out to their local parks and experience the many benefits they offer. The City’s Parks and Recreation Department also offers numerous programs and activities for all ages that inspire healthy, active lifestyles as well as to promote and appreciate our natural environment. “Delray Beach is a great place to escape with over 30 active and passive parks and a world-class beach throughout the City”, stated Tim Simmons, Interim Director of Parks and Recreation. We are thrilled to be celebrating this important month-long event along with numerous other communities through the United States.” During this year’s celebration of the City’s parks and recreation programs, services and facilities, the City, along with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), is asking residents to join the fun by answering the question – “Why do you love Delray Beach Parks and Recreation?” To participate, download a free poster by visiting the City’s website – www.mydelraybeach.com – or go directly to the Parks and Recreation Department’s Facebook Page – www.facebook.com/delraybeachparks. The City is seeking the most creative answers, so once you have completed your poster, bring it one of City’s numerous Parks and Recreation sites and we will can display it for everyone to see. If you do not have access to the internet, just visit one of our recreation sites and you can complete a poster. About Parks and Recreation Month America has celebrated July as the nation’s official Park and Recreation Month for more than 25 years and in 2009 the U.S. House of Representatives officially mandated July as “Parks and Recreation Month.” As the obesity epidemic continues to rage within our country, programs like Park and Recreation Month and the First Lady’s “Let’s Move!” campaign are energizing an American population to adopt healthy lifestyle choices. The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), created Parks and Recreation Month to specifically promote the many benefits of local parks and recreation and celebrate the value they bring to their community, including Delray Beach.
