Hair Styles: From the Runway to Your Driveway

I look to fashion week for help to pick up trends that I can convert into my own looks. This is as much for hair styles as it is for clothes. I like my hair to be my best accessory. It can be yours too. This spring the hair trends are simple:

  • Braids
  • Head Wraps
  • Deep Side Parts
  • French Twists
  • Undone, Messy Looks

The easiest way for you to make these looks your own is to browse through magazines, surf the web or make a quick appointment with your hair stylist to see what looks go best with your style. The great thing about this spring is the looks have an overall undone ease to them. This is fantastic because, although women want to be fashionable, sometimes we just don’t have the time to make a perfect coif. If your hair has an overall neat look, invest in some beach spray. It will add texture and a little grit that will help you create the effortless, messy look that we all love, and that is walking the runways this spring. Braids and pony’s are really big this season. If you think you can’t braid, no sweat. Put your beach spray in, get your hair a bit messy, take some strands, twist, secure with bobby pins or a pony tail holder and off you go. Or, put your hair in a low pony, grab a colorful scarf, wrap and go. Your hair will be your best accessory.

Take a look at what you are wearing and ask yourself, “Is my hair adding to or competing with my outfit.” If you say adding to, then get out and have a great day. If you say competing with, then simply take a step back from the mirror. Get a few things on the counter, pony tail holders, bobby pins, barrettes a comb and some hairspray. The process is streamlined when everything you need is at your fingertips. Now, start by doing the opposite of what you started with. If your hair is up, take it down, and vice-versa, switch the side of your part. Sometime a small shift in proportion can make a big difference. A few extra minutes can make or break the way you feel about yourself all day. Don’t underestimate the power of looking and feeling good. Be fearless with your hairstyles. Remember, it’s just hair. You can change the way it looks just as quickly as you can change your shoes. Look to the Spring 2013 runway for inspiration. Have fun, look great and just because you maybe in your driveway, that doesn’t mean you can’t look like you are on the runway. Dianne E.
