Local stars dance and dine at Sandoway House Nature Center Earth Day Gala

DELRAY BEACH, FL – Hundreds gathered on Saturday, April 14 for the Sandoway House Nature Center’s Earth Day Gala. Legendary football coach Howard Schnellenburger served as Honorary Chairman. Set poolside and ocean side, under the stars at a local beach club, the gala featured cocktails, a traditional New England lobster bake, silent auction and dancing to the sounds of the Valerie Tyson Band. The highlight of the evening was the “Dancing with the Sandoway Stars” Dance Competition.

Dancing for bragging rights with the fabulous professional dancers from Virtuous Productions Dance Center were former Delray Beach City Commissioner and 2008 winner, Gary Eliopoulos; reigning champion Delray Beach City Commissioner Adam Frankel and newly elected City Commissioner Al Jacquet. The winner was Al Jacquet with his partner Ashley Allen from Virtuous Productions. More than $20,000 was raised for Delray Beach’s only nature center through ticket sales, silent auction and raffle sales. The gala committee included Carol Calicchio, Chris Davies, Marjorie Ferrer, Laura McCormick, Elaine Morris, Terri Neil, Carolyn Patton, JoAnn Peart, Joyce Slominski and Lisa Tiernan.

Sponsors included CDS International Holdings, Inc, Caffe Luna Rosa, Michael and Lisa Tiernan and Ocean City Printing. The Sandoway House Nature Center is located in a historic 1936 beachfront home at 142 S. Ocean Blvd., Delray Beach. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and preserved as a unique Nature Center now home to native plants, live animals, and a world class shell collection.
