By Drew Tucker Welcome to 2013 music lovers! This year promises to be a great one in the Delray Beach music scene, and we plan to keep you up to date with all of the movers and shakers by profiling one of their Delray Beach shows, as well as the artists themselves. We will also be getting back to helping you pick the best music for your tastes, for your night out on the town. To kick it off we wanted to give you a quick update on what some of last year’s featured artists have been up to since we interviewed them last.

Rachel Andes When we last spoke to Rachel, she was getting ready to launch the second act in her already successful music career. She has since recorded her first jazz album, performed to a sold out crowd at Arts Garage, and at Delray Beach Center for the Arts, and is recording her CD of originals in Nashville, TN. Rachel is currently booking her 2013 summer tour of the northeastern United States, and working with a booking agent in Europe, with a plan to begin touring Europe in 2014.

Eric Biddines After we left off in February, Eric had just released the Southern FLA mixtape & the Southern FLA video. Since then Eric has focused on big success by making small constant steps day in and day out. “I’ve focused on a idea I came up with called “Molding My Audience.” It keeps me ahead of myself because I only do what I want my fans and followers to accept,” Eric says, “so I’ve put deep thought into making all of my projects, releases and shows, an individual and completely different experience.” Eric went on to release an EP titled, “The Frozen Lake”, produced entirely by a local producer by the name of J-Sharp. Recorded during the time he was finishing Southern FLA, he released physical copies for free, exclusively at shows and on iTunes. Eric has began taking an even deeper emphasis on merchandise & apparel, selling coffee cups, shirts, sweaters, chains and more. Since we last spoke he’s released a collaborative project and a couple more videos since the Southern FLA. Now in the final stages of “planetcoffeebean 2”, his second full studio LP, Eric is ready to take the next step for his fans. He says, “Going into 2013 the focus will be on turning my brand into an experience.” Catch Eric at Arts Garage, backed up by a live band on February 2nd, at 9:00 pm. His single “Coffee Cup” is now available on iTunes and

Shawn Hagood Last we heard, Shawn was on the grind, doing what needed to be done to grow his craft, and following, in South Florida. Playing drums with RichKid Soundsystem, heading up the Joe Bonnamasa Street Team and being a first-call freelance keyboardist for some of the hottest South Florida hip hop acts. He is still doing those things, but in addition, he is the steady keyboard player for the Dirty Heads, and has been touring with them since October. If you want to catch him locally, before he hits the road again, see him perform live at Delray Center for the Arts, January 11th, and with Eric Biddines, February 2nd, with the Classic Hip Hop band, Plaid Blazer.

Makiin Makiin was recently listed at #6 on the Broward New Times Top 10 Palm Beach Rappers and is working on her first solo album, titled “Makiin Moves.” She has signed with a management company, “Man Meets Machine” (M3), in which both owners were a part of Notorious BIG’s camp. Makiin opened up for Flo Rida & Frank Ocean in Brooklyn at Club OPM this past December 30th 2012. She will be dropping an interview with NBC’s very own Amanda Massa before the end of the year.

Along with her debut album dropping in 2013, she’ll be shooting a documentary that coincides with the “Makiin Moves” album, entitled “A day in the life of Makiin”.

Since we last sat and spoke, a handful of things have occurred in the life of MJD. Our latest favorite song, “Believers” had dawned on iTunes this past November 29th. Prior to that he had the pleasure of getting a placement with top top New York City DJ, Statik Selektah, on his “1982 | 2012” album, and another with Shady Records/Bogis Brand artist Ca$h’s “The Art Of Dying” album. MJD’s churning process continues as the Van Buren Court and I are in the final stages of my “Believers” album. And the revamped is here so people can find everything out about MJD in one amazing place on the web. He plans to collaborate with a number of programs that focus on the uplifting of our community, such as the iPromote Peace and Art Officially Dope organizations, who do things such as host events to feed the hungry, and create opportunities for youth to display their many artistic talents in Palm Beach County. More music and videos are being released at the beginning of the new year.
