Sister Cities of Delray Beach Announces 25th Annual Young Artist Showcase Winners

Sister Cities of Delray Beach recently hosted a reception at City Hall to announce the local winners of the Sister Cities International 2013 Annual Young Artists Showcase. This showcase celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Sister Cities International’s Annual Young Artists Showcase, which provides youth with the opportunity to express the mission of Sister Cities through original artwork. All students submitted their work based on a designated theme – “The Power of Exchange.” This year, two Delray Beach area students took 1st Place in the middle and high school categories: Margaret Riordan, a student at the Unity School, and Haili Krause, a student at Atlantic Community High School. Haili’s artwork was the overall local winner, and will be submitted to the international competition. All local students’ artwork submitted to the international contest will be reviewed by a panel of judges in Washington, D.C. and winners will be selected based on originality, composition, and theme interpretation. The winning artwork will be included in the 2013 Sister Cities International Exhibition and Tour, where they will embark on a year-long tour hosted by local Sister City programs on a monthly basis.   • 1st Place – Margaret Riordan (Unity School)
  • 2nd Place – Elizabeth Shutt (Unity School)
  • 3rd Place – Annick Meredith (Unity School)
  • Honorable Mention – Remy O’Hare (Unity School)
  • Honorable Mention – Lauren Rowland (Unity School)

High School

  • 1st Place and International entry – Haili Krause (Atlantic High School)
  • 2nd Place – Sydney Blitman (American Heritage High School)
  • 3rd Place – Jamie Nolan (American Heritage High School)
  • Honorable mention – Addison Simpson (American Heritage High School)

David Schmidt, President of Sister Cities of Delray Beach, announced the award recipients during the reception. He further noted that all of the students’ artwork will be on display in the lobby of City Hall, 100 NW 1st Avenue, until May 6th, through a partnership with the City of Delray Beach and the Delray Art League and in cooperation with the Delray Center for the Arts at Old School Square.
