The Crest Theatre and MNM Productions will kick-off the 25th anniversary season of Delray Beach Center for the Arts next Friday night (December 5) with the opening of the landmark musical A CHORUS LINE. The show will run for 12 performances through December 14. “This production marks a new era for the Crest Theatre,” says Joe Gillie, president of the Delray Beach Center for the Arts at Old School Square. “We move from a touring house to join the ranks of professionally produced theatre here in Florida. We’re proud to work with MNM to showcase some of the area’s best talent, and we hope this is the beginning of a great partnership!” The show is being directed by Kimberly Dawn (KD) Smith, who not only appeared in A CHORUS LINE on Broadway, she is one of only a handful of choreographers personally entrusted by Director / Choreographer Michael Bennett to carry on his original vision. “While A CHORUS LINE is, by tradition, a ‘no-star’ show that focuses instead on all the dancing gypsies, we are particularly pleased that our 23 talented cast members are all stars in their own right,” say co-producers Marcie Gorman and Michael Lifshitz. “They each come with an abundance of theatrical experience and we are particularly pleased that all have direct ties to South Florida.” Among the more recognizable performers in A CHORUS LINE are Shane Tanner (Zach), Courtney Arango (Cassie), Michael Peter Deeb (Bobby), Rebecca Jimenez (Diana), Dawn Lebrecht (Sheila) and Brian Varela (Paul). A CHORUS LINE is the sixth longest-running show in Broadway history, with music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Edward Kleban and book by James Kirkwood, Jr. and Nicholas Dante. Centered on 17 Broadway dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line, the musical is set on the bare stage of a Broadway theatre during an audition for a musical. The award-winning show provides a glimpse into the personalities of both the performers and the choreographer as they describe the events that have shaped their lives and their decisions to become dancers. Tickets to see A CHORUS LINE at Delray Center for the Arts/Crest Theatre are only $45 each (plus a $2 historic preservation fee) and can be purchased online at DelrayArts.org or by calling the Box Office at 561.243.7922, ext. 1.
