Editors Note: The Unknown Diner provides Food Beat viewers with the definitive approval of Delray Beach restaurants. Due to events that took place with an organized crime ring in Paris, France in 2011, he disguises his identity and refuses to speak. Despite his egocentricities and mysterious mannerisms, The Unknown Diner is revered for his discriminating pallet. When asked to write a review for a recent visit to Patio Delray, he declined, but allowed us (The Food Beat) to view his legal pad containing the notes he took during his dining experience. We have taken those notes, and added our interpretations to provide this review. Target Restaurant: Patio Delray 800 Palm Trail (Formerly Pineapple Grill) Delray Beach, FL 561-279-0880 Lunch & Dinner Seven Days a Week Unknown Diner: Atmosphere… Splendid dichotomy The Food Beat: Unknown is pleasantly surprised by the wondrous combination of elegant and casual. The dining room and bar area have a very upscale feel, yet remain intimate and cozy. The patio area, however, offers a lush and secluded retreat for those wishing to dine in shorts and flip flops. Or, for those wishing not to draw unnecessary attention to themselves. Unknown Diner: Staff… Respectful The Food Beat: As we all have come to know, Unknown appreciates his space and privacy, and the wait staff at Patio Delray provided both, as well as a keen knowledge of the ever changing menu. He appreciates being well attended, but not bothered… and the staff was cognoscente of his lofty demands. Unknown Diner: Service…Oldfangled The Food Beat: The service reminded Unknown of his days in Paris. Operating like a well oiled machine, the staff worked in unison to ensure a most pleasurable dining experience. Unknown Diner: Menu… Disparate The Food Beat: Does Unknowns thirst for adjectives exceed his lust for great food? Possibly, but on this trip to Patio Delray, his golden pallet was polished to a glimmering shine. For his entree, he was enamored with the spiced garam masala rubbed Ahi Tuna served with forbidden black rice, blistered grape Tomatoes, edamame curried mango chutney raita, and Asian pare slaw. The tuna was pan seared and then finished to perfection in the oven and served medium rare. From the texture, to the flavor, this dish was of the highest caliber, and one that Unknown consumed with great enthusiasm. Patio Delray prides themselves on pairing the perfect cocktail or wine with the meal, and the pear-ginger-tini was an excellent choice. On subsequent visits, Unknown has enjoyed the flame grilled double cut pork chop and the amazing ahi tuna tar tar appetizer. Unknown also appreciate the passion and creativity that goes into the menu and the new items that are consistently blended in with the house favorites. Unknown Diner: Bar… Exquisite The Food Beat: Unknown was very pleased with the bar and the vast wine selection. Unlike many bars, Patio Delray approaches each drink as if it might be your last…they stuff their own olives with fresh bleu cheese, make their own Bloody Mary mix, shake up signature martini’s, and craft custom created cocktails that dazzle. One customer was overheard raving about the Ultimate- Smoky-Tini. Unknown believes this is a very good place to consume adult beverages. Unknown Diner: Intangibles… Beaucoup The Food Beat: It all begins with Patio Delray’s proprietor, Miss Lilly. Deeply impassioned in the world of great food, her touch is on every dish and cocktail served. Mysterious, gracious, worldly, and easy on the eyes, Miss Lilly embodies Patio Delray’s mood. The patio is spectacular and the privacy is unparalleled in Delray. And not that it really matters to Unknown, but the parking is abundant and free. Unknown Diner: Bottom Line… Fork up. Way up. The Food Beat: The Unknown Diner highly recommends Patio Delray. Log on to www.thefoodbeat.com to see the Unknown Diner’s visit to Patio Delray.
